A Simple Origami Box
Hey all!
I just quickly wanted to share with you that I wrote up a new origami tutorial earlier today. You can go view it over at my origami blog: How to Fold a Simple Origami Box. Just click on the picture to be taken straight to it!
Go learn how to fold one and then use it as a gift box for your special someone on Valentine’s Day! Go on! You know you want to…
Also in that post, I show off my own smallest origami crane, after being challenged by a commenter in relation to my previous tutorial. It’s small enough to sit on my fingertip!
Oh, by the way, before I sign off, I received one of the funniest spam comments that I’ve seen to date recently. Some of these things are funny simply because of the odd language they sometimes use, but this one was funny because of the irony. Placed only to promote its link:
I was curious if you ever considered changing the structure of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
The post that this was left on? The Idiocy of the English Language, which you have all probably read by now, you know, Freshly Pressed and all that. I found it hilarious because of the unintentional irony – that post basically consists of pictures! I’m counting 8 pictures and about 3 paragraphs’ worth of text.
Someone should really teach these bots to place their spam in places where it will be less ironic… Now, if this comment had appeared on my last post about writing and music, I might even have taken it seriously…
Still laughing,
Announcements, announcements and announcements.
Wow, that is a lot of announcements! If you are here only for the cartoons, feel free to ignore this post – this is just general blog-housekeeping.
Guess what?!? You know that I said I wanted to get an origami tutorials site up and running? It is finally live! I don’t know why these things always seem to take way longer than they should, but it is finally up and running!
Visit it at:
tutorigami.wordpress.com
Again, I am really sorry that I could not organize it so that I could post the tutorials on this blog.
But I promise to post full updates about the origami here, so that you need only click through to find the new tutorial. Then you don’t have to follow two blogs if you are not that interested.
Anyway… the first tutorial is… Yes, you guessed it!
The Origami Peace Crane!

In other news… those of you who have been around for a while will know me always singing the praises of daily freewriting over at 750words.com. Well, I am pleased to announce that I have finally achieved a year-long writing streak on Friday with this site. It means that I have written over 750 words every day, for 365 days in a row. During this time, I have written about 320,000 words (this includes my NaNoWriMo novel), which in print would be a novel of over a thousand pages, and I have gone from struggling with it for over half an hour to being able to easily write my words in 15 minutes. I consider this to be a big achievement.
Seriously, if you want to come into the habit of writing regularly, want to freewrite, or if you just want to improve your typing, I can really recommend this site. I only originally challenged myself to write 10 days in a row… and that turned into a year-long thing. Of course, I am not stopping now. Now I am shooting for 500 days of writing.
The last thing for tonight is… I want to expand my blogging topics. Mostly this is because I would like to post more regularly, but I cannot manage more than one cartoon every 7-10 days. After all, this blog is called Cartoons and Creative Writing, so I would like to start writing more about writing. Call it metawriting if you like. I would like to not only post finished short stories, but also write about the process of writing them. I will intersperse these posts with the regular cartoons and see if I can manage to post twice a week. I would have included a comment about how it is a free world and my darn blog, but it is not true. The bit about the free world, not about my blog. It is my blog.
Anyway…
I’ll be back soon with a cartoon-post!
I hope you all had a great weekend!
Short how-to article on procrastination
Usually I write how-to articles over on wikiHow, where I spend my time being responsible and serious. But now I am going to post a how-to article that definitely would not fit in over there as it would certainly be nominated for deletion. Why, if I were over there right now and I found an article such as this one, I would not even have to agonize over the deletion policy before hitting “delete”.
That is why I am posting it here. Enjoy!
*Please note: this article breaks with my own policy of melodramatic cartoons, as it is hardly exaggerated, and there is only one picture and it can hardly qualify as a cartoons on its own.
